Dale Zarrella is a young artist in years, but seldom does an artist master so many mediums. Wood, stone, and bronze sculptures are represented as well as paintings on canvas. He has made the Island of Maui his home and inspiration for his incredible life’s work.

He began his career as a sculptor as the age of nine. By eighteen he was deeply committed to his work and had completed as eight foot crucifix and large sculpture of the Holy Family for his hometown church, St. Dominic’s, in Southington, Connecticut. Dale continues to strive with each creation to open the doors in both our hearts and minds. The natural power of his wood sculptures and his acclaimed limited edition bronzes attests to his exacting dedication.

When expanding his vision to include paintings on canvas, he found his experience as a sculptor helped to develop depth and contours which make his paintings come alive. Dale opens the door to the secret world of sea turtles with his bronze sculptures and paintings showing us the grace and beauty of these magnificent creatures. Dale’s work as director of one of Hawaii’s few turtle sanctuaries (on the Big Island) and as a board member of the World Turtle Trust communicates a personal dedication to honoring and preserving their world.

Dale Zarrella is director of one of Hawaii's most unique turtle sanctuaries. A place and project so unique it has been visited and documented by Jean Michelle Costeau and his team of divers as well as National Geographic writer and photographer Chris Johns. Located on the Big Island of Hawaii near Volcano National Park, a place old Hawaii called fishponds. Natural ponds formed along the shoreline; fed by ocean tides and fresh water thermally heated springs. For centuries Hawaiians raised most of the fish they consumed in fish ponds. The stone walls surrounding these ponds are over six hundred years old. Today the ponds are home to seaturtles that were hurt in the wild and brought to the sanctuary to live. These ponds and turtles are cared for by artist Dale Zarrella and his daughter Shala. His vision goes far beyond his passion to create. Dale takes an active roll in honoring and preserving sea turtles and their world. He is on the board of directors of the World Turtle Trust (Honu Project) responsible for three award winning documentary's on sea turtles. The most recent "Red Turtle Rising" about the Hawksbill turtles of Hawaii.
